“…Because of few surveys conducted, currently, the rates of clarithromycin resistance in Africa and Oceania were reported to be at relatively low level. Unexpectedly, although the reported data of antibiotic resistance of H. pylori were limited, the prevalence of clarithromycin‐resistant H. pylori were high in America , the developed country.…”

“…In Central Europe, the recommended first line eradication treatment of H. pylori comprises clarithromycin, amoxicillin and a proton pump inhibitor [7,8]. Particularly with regard to clarithromycin resistance, treatment failure is highly likely if a clarithromycin‐containing regime is used [9–11]. During EGD, biopsy sampling for H. pylori culture and antimicrobial susceptibility determination is recommended especially in regions where resistances to antibiotics used as a part of the standard treatment are prevalent [12,13].…”

“…However, resistance to clarithromycin has become one of the major reasons for treatment failure (13). The prevalence of H. pylori resistance to clarithromycin varies among different countries, such as 10.6% to 25% in North America, 16% in Japan, and 1.7% to 23.4% in Europe (14,19,21). Overall, resistance to clarithromycin has been detected more in patients living in the south than in those living in the north of Europe (21).…”
