Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphomas with 6p25.3 rearrangement exhibit particular histological features

Abstract: Our findings suggest that the presence of 6p25.3 rearrangement might be related to this particular biphasic pattern.

“…Cutaneous lymphomas with a dual‐component lymphocyte infiltrate were recently reported in three cases of primary cutaneous ALCL and in 12 cases of indolent Lyp . However, in contrast to these cases, in our case the deep infiltrate was present exclusively in the subcutis, and was separated from the upper epidermotropic infiltrate by a dermis free of tumoral cells.…”

“…Whether this peculiar histological feature has prognostic significance is unknown. In all reported cases, lymphoma had an indolent course, with no progression towards a systemic form and no recurrence after tumour excision . In our patient, irradiation of the nodules led to complete and long‐lasting local remission.…”

“…Sir: We read with interest the recent report by Onaindia et al . describing three primary cutaneous anaplastic large‐cell lymphomas (ALCLs) with 6p25.3 rearrangements and histological features similar to those that we have described in cases of lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) bearing this rearrangement .…”

“…DUSP22-IRF4 locus translocation is present in 20-57 % of C-ALCLs and has also been described in a series of 11 LP patients. Onaindia et al [36] collected three cases of C-ALCL with histological features similar to the ones described in the new variant of LP with 6p25.3 rearrangement as detected by FISH. The three cases showed distinctive histological and immunohistochemical features: a diffuse dermal infiltrate of atypical medium-to-large cells and marked epidermotropism with small, atypical intraepidermal lymphocytes.…”
