Primary localized amyloidoma of the renal pelvis: A case report and literature review

Abstract: Abstract. Primary localized amyloidomas of the renal pelvis are challenging to diagnose, due to non-specific imaging results and the unusual location. The present study reports a rare case of primary localized amyloidoma of the renal pelvis and aims to illustrate the challenges in pre-operatively discriminating between this disease and transitional cell carcinomas. The present study identified that the mass was situated in the left renal pelvis using ultrasonography. A nephroureterectomy was performed followin… Show more

“…Urine cytology is usually negative since most amyloid deposits are subepithelial and CTU scan findings are unspecific. 1 , 3 Ureteral stricture and wall thickening, mostly distal and unilateral, lead to retrograde hydronephrosis which can be confused with ureteral neoplasm. Some authors consider submucosal ureteral calcifications as a typical sign; however, they can also be present in tuberculosis and schistosomiasis.…”

“…1,2 Hastalıklarla ilişkili 27 farklı amiloid öncülü protein tanımlanmış olup, amiloidoz sınıflaması bu proteinlerin türüne göre AL amiloidoz, AA amiloidoz veya diyaliz ilişkili amiloidoz ve tutulumun yaygınlığına göre sistemik veya lokalize amiloidoz şeklinde yapılmaktadır. 3 Amiloid birikimi her organda görülebilirken kemik tutulumu oldukça nadirdir. Kafa tabanı, temporal kemik, tibia, pelvis, sakrum ve femur birikimi en sık görüldüğü kemiklerdir.…”
