Primary Oral Myiasis: A Case Report

Abstract: Myiasis commonly refers to invasion of live human or animal tissue by fly larvae of the Diptera order where they complete their cycle totally or in part, feeding on living or dead tissue, as well as on body fluids. “…Moreover, Giangaspero et al (2011 found myiatic wound on vulva and prepuce of sheep; Gaglio et al (2011) reported three cases of genital myiasis of a goat, ram and dog in Italy; Duro et al (2007) stated umbilical myiasis in animal; Farkas et al (1997) found wound myiasis on external genital organs (87%) of sheep in Hungary. Our study exposed other common sites as brisket ( On the observation, dirtiness with fecal and urine contamination, poor housing infrastructure, floor with rough surface (brick, concrete) leads to bed sore and wound which is agreement with Bhola et al (2012). Phillips (2009) confirmed sheep were predisposed to fly strike (cutaneous myiasis) where fleece was contaminated with feces or urine.…”

“…In addition, miscarriage (1) [31], HIV and hepatitis virus infections complicated with mediolateral episiotomy (1) [32], and postpartum lochia (1) [31], during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium were documented among women of childrenbearing age. Otherwise, drug addict (1) [33], chronic seborrhoeic eczema(1) [34] in a German tourist travelling to a Malaysian island in 2012, were also recorded. These data indicated a risk of C. bezziana infestation posing to the vulnerable individuals.…”

“…The turpentine oil was commonly used as the effective suffocating agent. The cotton buds or gauze impregnated with turpentine oil were usefully applied in the myiases treatment involving limbs, mouth, eye, ear, nose, facial tumor base [33,62-65], and perineal & inguinal regions [58,66]. If the oclusive measure was applied to the infested sites around the tracheostomy and pharyngostomy tubes, gave great caution for the high risk of chemical pneumonitis [67].…”
