Primary Repair or Colostomy in Colonic Injuries – Comparative Analysis With Literature Review

Abstract

PRIMARY REPAIR VERSUS COLOSTOMY IN COLONIC INJURIES -COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS WITH LITERATURE REVIEW (Abstract):This article offers an evaluation of colon trauma experience in Clinical Emergency Hospital of Bucharest following the analysis of 182 cases of colonic injuries in solitary abdominal trauma or politrauma patients. Our results are compared with the literature review data of 3692 cases published over the past 30 years regarding the etiology, use of primary repair procedures or colostomy and the related morbidity and mortality. This comprehensive analysis shows a change in the trend of management in civilian colonic trauma with a clear shifting from the routine use of colostomy to a much more frequent use of primary repair techniques.
