Abstract:Probability distributions for the heights of maxima and minima in fluctuating nuclear cross sections have been obtained from synthetic excitation functions. It is shown how these distributions can be used to determine the extent to which experimentally observed large excursions from the average cross sections may deviate from the predictions of simple fluctuation theory. A discussion is given of problems associated with the detection of resonance anomalies in experimental excitation functions.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
