Probing elastically or plastically induced structural heterogeneities in bulk metallic glasses by nanoindentation pop-in tests

Abstract: Shear banding dynamics in bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) is manifested by the spatiotemporal evolution of strain fields which in turn depend on structural heterogeneities. The spacing of these heterogeneities, as a characteristic length scale, was determined from the analysis of nanoindentation pop-in tests using a stochastic model.
