Probing the superconducting ground state of the noncentrosymmetric superconductorsCaTSi3(T= Ir, Pt) using muon-spin relaxation and rotation

Abstract: The superconducting properties of CaT Si3 (where T = Pt and Ir) have been investigated using muon spectroscopy. Our muon-spin relaxation results suggest that in both these superconductors time-reversal symmetry is preserved, while muon-spin rotation data show that the temperature dependence of the superfluid density is consistent with an isotropic s-wave gap. The magnetic penetration depths determined from our transverse-field muon-spin rotation spectra are found to be 448(6) and 150(7) nm for CaPtSi3 and CaIr… Show more

“…As can be seen from this table, the effect of SOI on the structural properties of CaIrSi 3 is very small. Our results for a and c with SOI are only 0.4% and 0.5% different from the recent experimental values [21] of 4.196Å and 9.871Å. Similarly, our results for z Ir , z Si1 and z Si2 , with SOI, are within 0.1%, 0.1% and 0.2% of the experimental values [18].…”

“…The calculated equilibrium lattice parameters (a and c), the volume of primitive unit cell (V ), internal parameters (z Ir , z Si1 and z Si2 ), bulk modulus (B) and its pressure derivative (B ′ ) with and without SOI are presented in Tab. 1, together with previous theoretical [23,24] and experimental [18,21] results for comparison. As can be seen from this table, the effect of SOI on the structural properties of CaIrSi 3 is very small.…”

“…To date, the only NCS that have yet been reported to show TRSB are LaNiC 2 [8], Re 6 Zr [9], locally noncentrosymmetric SrPtAs [10], and La 7 Ir 3 [11]. Meanwhile, TRS is found to be preserved in several other NCS including Ca(Ir,Pt)Si 3 [12], La(Rh,Pt,Pd,Ir)Si 3 [13][14][15], Mg 10 Ir 19 B 16 [16], Re 3 W [17], and Mo 3 Al 2 C [18]. The results obtained from transverse field muon measurements seem to imply a dominant s-wave component in the superconductivity of these systems, however, the full story requires a good understanding of the point group symmetry of the materials in question.…”

“…The majority of Ce materials are antiferromagnetic and become superconducting only under pressure. However, in materials such as BaPtSi 3 [17], LaRhSi 3 [18], CaPtSi 3 [19,20], CaIrSi 3 [19,20], LaPtSi 3 [21], and LaPdSi 3 [21], which also adopt the body-centered tetragonal BaNiSn 3 -type structure but do not show strong electronic correlations, superconductivity with the BCS characteristics has been discovered at ambient pressure.…”
