Problems in Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy Cytology of Clinically or Mammographically Uncertain Breast Tumors

Abstract: From June 1978 to December 1980 at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori of Milano, a fine-needle aspiration biopsy was performed on each of 4834 cases of palpable mammary nodules, the large majority of which were clinically and mammographically suspicious for cancer and only a small part clinically definitely positive.
