Processability of polysulfone improved by adding polyamide 6 and polysulfone‐polyamide 6 block copolymer

Abstract: Although polysulfone (PSU) is a potential thermoplastic engineering plastic with high heat resistance, good dimensional stability and excellent mechanical properties, its poor processability has greatly restricted its application in electrical, aerospace, and medical fields. In this work, polyamide 6 (PA6) and PSU‐PA6 block copolymer (PSU‐b‐PA6) were used to improve the processibility and formability of PSU depending on their excellent fluidity and good compatibility between two components. Furthermore, the fl… Show more

“…The corresponding peak around 1655.14 cm −1 denotes strong carbonyl (CO) stretching vibrations of the amide group, while a strong in‐plane bending vibration arising from aromatic NH 2 scissoring occurs at 1608.08 cm −1 and 1411.94 cm −1 . Additionally, the bands at 1246.15 cm −1 and 1107.13 cm −1 denote the OSO and COC asymmetric stretching vibrations of the polyethersulfone layer, respectively . The peaks at 2965.13 cm −1 and 2907.94 cm −1 represent CH stretching vibrations in both polyamide and polyethersulfone, respectively.…”

“…Aromatic diamine is one of the major building blocks to tailor the properties of the synthesized polyamides [ 12 , 13 ]. Various aromatic diamines possessing flexible spacers such as ether, methylene, and sulfone were incorporated into the polymer backbone to improve the flexibility of the polymer chains and hence their processability, along with maintaining their structure–property relationship [ 12 , 14 ].…”
