“…To our knowledge, no standardized data collection system or predictive model focusing on a treatment technique is available in literature. Several ontologies focusing on pathologies and different anatomical sites (e.g., rectum, thyroid and prostate) [ 1 , 8 , 15 ] can be found in the literature; however, to date, none of these focus on a specific radiotherapy technique ( Table 3 ). Only the brachytherapy ontology can be considered a technique-specific tool but is for head and neck cancers only [ 4 , 19 ].…”

“…Qualitative improvements in different fields, for example, genomics, histology and technology, provide a heterogeneity of data regarding both patient and tumor characteristics. Therefore, a larger amount of different types of data, together with their increased complexity, need to be considered in the decision-making process [ 1 , 2 ]. This process has historically been guided by international guidelines, based on randomized clinical trial evidence that provide a patient’s selection beforehand.…”

“…Less prediction tools are available for brachytherapy, which is a very viable treatment option for PCa. One study, Alitto et al (2017) [67], describes an Umbrella Protocol for the standardized development of new mDSS. This protocol could help in improving the application of new mDSS in clinics.…”
