Abstract:Professor Danny Segal (1960-2015) was a talented scientist who worked at Imperial College London for nearly twenty five years until his untimely death in 2015. His main research interest was in the area of spectroscopy and laser cooling of trapped ions in Penning traps, but he was also active in the wider ion trap and quantum optics communities in Europe and made many contributions beyond his research activities to the Physics Department at Imperial.
