Prognostic value of lymph node metastasis in patients with T1-stage colorectal cancer from multiple centers in China

Abstract: AIMTo explore the features and prognostic value of lymph node metastasis in patients with T1-stage colorectal cancer (CRC).METHODSIn all, 321 cases of T1-stage CRC were selected from 10132 patients with CRC who received surgical therapy in six large-scale hospitals in China and were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to analyze the risk factors for lymphatic metastasis. A survival analysis was then performed to analyze the prognostic value of lymph node metastasis.RES… Show more

“…The present study determined the prognostic value of NK cells in CRC patients; the value was moderate for the prediction of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year of survival. Previous studies have reported that blood CEA, CA199, and B lymphocyte counts are associated with survival in CRC patients [27][28][29]. We confirmed these associations in the present study.…”

“…A previous study had demonstrated that CEA and CA19-9 were independent predictive factors of liver metastasis of colorectal cancer through LNM [28]. Also, several studies had illustrated there was association between elevation of the CA19-9 and CA72-4 levels and presence of LNM in EGC patients, and elevation of the CEA level was proved to be an independent predictor for the poor prognosis of EGC [29,30]. However, a study indicated that CEA was unrelated to LNM in EGC [31].…”

“…In addition, serum CA724 levels and pN stage were independent prognostic factors of CRC, indicating that both were correlated to tumorigenesis. A study by Sun et al (2017) showed that an elevation in serum CA724 levels suggested that tumor cells had metastasized through the lymphatic or other pathways and had colonized at an another location. The lymph system was a common metastatic pathway of gastrointestinal cancer (Li et al, 2013).…”
