Progress in Applicability of Scoring Systems Based on Nutritional and Inflammatory Parameters for Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Ovarian cancer is a malignancy that seriously endangers women’s health; its case fatality rate ranks first among the gynecological malignancies. The status of nutrition of ovarian cancer patients is related to their prognoses. Thus, it is important to evaluate, monitor, and improve the nutritional status of ovarian cancer patients during their treatment. Currently, there are several tools for examining malnutrition and nutritional assessment, including NRI (nutrition risk index), PG-SGA (patient-generated subj… Show more

“… 26 Additionally, other studies have indicated that NRS-2002 and PG-SGA-SF scores are inversely correlated with various nutritional parameters in cancer patients. 30 32 The findings of this study are consistent, as both nutritional risks scoring systems were negatively correlated with total protein, prealbumin, body weight, BMI, energy intake, protein intake, and other variables. And PG-SGA-SF scores predicted the long hospital stays.…”

“…The nutritional parameters used in our study were cost-effective, non-invasive, and simple to use. Other nutritional parameters such as the patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) and the subjective global assessment (SGA) have been used in studies, to classify between 0 and 81.4% of EOC patients as malnourished [14][15][16][17][18][19]31]. Moreover, we did not use SGA and PG-SGA in our study.…”

“…It is unclear why platinum-resistant patients are at higher risk of malnutrition than platinum-sensitive patients. Perhaps the platinum-resistant tumor biology, due to its worse prognosis and more aggressive natural course, causes metabolic changes leading to malnutrition [31,33,34] (Eisenkop, 2001 #32).…”

“…CONUT score, as a more straightforward and more objective nutritional evaluation index, was calculated by three common factors, including serum ALB, TLC, and total cholesterol concentration. Low ALB level can be frequently found in tumor progression and is considered relevant to general nutritional status and systemic in ammation (21,22). Lymphocytes, the primary cells of human immunity, play key roles in host immune response and anti-tumor formation (23).…”
