Projection of the solidus surface of the Fe–Mo–C system in the composition range 0–40 at.% C

Abstract: The solidus projection of the Fe-Mo-C system in the composition range 0−40 at.% C is constructed for the first time using EDX, SEM, HT-DTA, HT-XRD, Pirani-Alterthum method, Vickers microhardness measurement, and CALPHAD modeling technique. It is established that there are M intermetallide is a linear phase in terms of carbon on the solidus surface with the homogeneity range Fe 38.2-45.3 Mo 47.5-40.4 C 14.3 for metal components, within which the lattice parameters change from 1.1152(3) to 1.1072(8) nm. CALPHAD … Show more

“…Thermodynamic of cast iron alloying process with MoO3 is basically chemical reduction of the molybdenum (VI)-oxide in the presence of triiron carbide to dimolybdenum carbide. Cast iron could be alloyed with molybdenum or his oxides as it confirms phase diagram of Fe-Mo-C system, Figure 1 [18]. Free energy of this multicomponent system changes almost linearly as a function of temperature.…”

“…(2) Compounds of Which Ground Structures Did Not Agree with the Experimental Results For Fe 3 Mo 2 (R), FeMo (σ), FeMo 8 B 11 (τ 3 ) there was no corresponding structure in the set of structures searched by GA. Among them, R is composed of 159 atoms, 18) and σ is a disordered structure of a large unit cell composed of 30 atoms. 19) In this study, R was not found because the structure search was conducted by limiting the total number of atoms in the unit cell to 32.…”
