“…Proline is accumulated preferentially in leaves in order to maintain chlorophyll level and cell turgor to protect photosynthetic activity under salt stress (Silva-Ortega et al 2008). Proline has also a potential role in scavenging ROS products (Soshinkova et al 2013). The accumulation of proline in plants under stress is caused either by the induction of expression of proline biosynthesis genes ( P5CS, P5CR ) or by the repression of the genes of its degradation pathway (PDH silencing) (Marco et al 2015).…”

“…Plant organelle contain important enzymes at high concentration which split H 2 O 2 into H 2 O and O 2 (Henzler and Steudle ). Accumulated H 2 O 2 in the cell was further reduced by the activity of catalase and ascorbate peroxidase system (Willekens et al , Soshinkova et al ). Plants synthesize NO in different enzymatic and non‐enzymatic pathways (Wodala et al ).…”

“…3B,C) because higher amount of acetate group of CM-H 2 DCFDA was cleaved by esterases and its thiol-reactive chloromethyl group reacts with glutathione and other thiols (Bradley et al 2014 (Henzler and Steudle 2000). Accumulated H 2 O 2 in the cell was further reduced by the activity of catalase and ascorbate peroxidase system (Willekens et al 1997, Soshinkova et al 2013. “…Also, in our study, enhanced antioxidant defense enzymes in spermidine and proline treated peppers decreased H 2 O 2 and MDA content. Proline and spermidine are reactive oxygen scavengers, as Hossain and Fujita (2010) and Soshinkova et al (2013) reported, with these protective properties against oxidative damage, the lipid peroxidation levels decrease.…”

“…The studies conducted demonstrated that spermidine (spd) is participating in the regulation of plant responses to diverse abiotic stresses like drought or osmotic stress, salinity, heat and chilling through direct binding to membrane phospholipids, osmotic adjustment, scavenging of free radicals and maintaining a cation-anion balance (Kusano et al, 2008). In vitro studies have shown that proline is a reactive oxygen scavenger and therefore its protective property may have an antioxidant effect (Soshinkova et al, 2013). For this reason, the exogenous polyamine and proline applications are an effective approach which may increase the tolerance to the stress and the product yield.…”
