Proposal for Tower Crane Productivity Indicators Based on Data Analysis in the Era of Construction 4.0

Abstract: This article proposes a methodology to measure the productivity of a construction site through the analysis of tower crane data. These data were obtained from a data logger that records a time series of spatial and load data from the lifting machine during the structural phase of a construction project. The first step was data collection, followed by preparation, which consisted of formatting and cleaning the dataset. Then, a visualization step identified which data was the most meaningful for the practitioner… Show more

“…This factor plays a vital role in influencing the operator to make errors, timely prevention of unsafe situations, and responding to the errors made by other workers once an unsafe situation comes up. As emphasized by Danel et al [27], the experience of the crane operator is one of the leading safety risk factors that influence safety when working with a crane during construction.…”

“…The chances of accidents significantly increase, thereby causing more spending that could increase the overall project costs. The safety culture of a construction company comprises the safety policies, standards, attitudes, insights, competencies, and forms of behavior that define adherence to the style and proficiency of managing safety in the company [27].…”

“…In this paper, the authors analysed the key factors leading to the minimisation of safety risks in the process of assembly work. Danel et al [32] analysed key input data related to the optimal design of cranes on site and proposed a methodology for measuring productivity in construction assembly processes.…”

“…The growing maturity level in smart sensors and connectivity allowed tower cranes to be connected through data logging systems that make large amounts of data on different cranes. This creates a unique chance to enhance the ability to utilize cranes in the construction industry, such as tracking the progress and productivity of construction sites (Danel et al, 2021;Panda et al, 2021).…”
