Proposal of an experimental data and image transmission system and its possible application for remote monitoring smart grids

Abstract: This paper investigates the bit error rate (BER) and the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) performances of quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) coded orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems over an actual power line communication (PLC) channel that are acquired by performing very long-term experimental measurements from the grid. The examined system is tested by changing system parameters such as code length, iteration number, coding rate and message type in detail. The results of … Show more

“…Measurements for checking the received image quality has often used, peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and mean squared error (MSE) of the decoded received image are measured with respect to the transmitted one as follows: (15) where M and N are the image vertical and horizontal dimensions, 1 and 2 are the transmitted and received images respectively, MSE is a metric used to measure the amount of errors in the received image with respect to the transmitted one. PSNR measures the precision of image decoding, better image quality PSNR is greater than 20dB [23][24][25].…”
