Proposal of ensemble qubits with two-atom decay

Abstract: We propose and analyze a novel approach to implement ensemble qubits. The required anharmonicity is provided by a simultaneous decay of two atoms (i.e., two-atom decay), which is achieved by fully quantum degenerate parametric amplification. For an atomic ensemble, the two-atom decay generates and stabilizes a 2D quantum manifold, which is spanned by the ground and single-excited superradiant states.
