Abstract:As the most ambitious concept of isotope separation on line (ISOL) facility, EURISOL aims at producing unprecedented intensities of post-accelerated radioactive isotopes. Charge breeding, which transforms the charge state of radioactive beams from 1+ to an n+ charge state prior to post-acceleration, is a key technology which has to overcome the following challenges: high charge states for high energies, efficiency, rapidity and purity. On the roadmap to EURISOL, a dedicated R&D is being undertaken to push forw… Show more
“…The results of these tests, briefly summarized in the following, shall be detailed in a second article. Assuming that relevant modifications could be done to the GANIL Phoenix booster to attain comparable performances, such an optimized ECR charge breeder would not only be a powerful workhorse for SPIRAL but also would permit gaining appreciable understanding and know-how about this technique and applying it at future facilities [25]. The success of the optimization of the Phoenix charge breeder therefore depends greatly on a good interpretation of the latest progress made with the CARIBU charge breeder.…”

“…It is therefore a slightly downscaled version of the one presented in Ref. 4. The trap geometry is inspired from the ISOLDE ion COOLer (ISCOOL): 14 2 couple of rods, on which a RF voltage is applied, permit to confine the ions radially, while the longitudinal ion motion is controlled by blades inserted in the symmetry planes of the quadrupole.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
