In recent years, supporting schemes have been legislated by several governments to encourage private investors in installing renewable energy resources (RER). In such cases, the supportive policies are mainly enacted based on the either investor or distribution companies’ standpoint. In this paper, a distribution network expansion planning (DNEP) framework with the cooperation of residential private investors (RPI) is proposed. Due to the presence of a couple of main participants, the proposed framework is arranged in a bi‐level framework, where the RPI participation is optimized at the upper level, and the system structure is determined at the lower level. In order to assess the profitability of the project from the investors’ attitude, payback period years (PBY) is utilized. Meanwhile, due to the presence of uncertainty resources, fuzzy clustering method (FCM) is developed to catch the intermittency of the problem. The proposed framework is implemented on a real 81 bus distribution test system in Iran. Moreover, the existing scheme in Iran and also a modified plan are investigated to make cost‐effective decisions. Finally, sensitivity analysis is performed to reach a more beneficial result. Obtained results demonstrated how distribution companies can utilize the potential of residential customers in long‐term planning.

The business model of as‐a‐service is rapidly spreading in the energy industry. This study aims to examine how servitization in the energy sector is progressing, what sectors are in the spotlight, and what their implications are. By understanding the servitization aspect of the energy sector, it is possible to gauge the direction of change in the energy industry. This study has reviewed various as‐a‐service types in the energy sector through new articles analytics. For a total of 6 years from 2015 to 2020, news articles containing keywords related to the energy industry and the term “as a service” were extracted from Google News using the R package. As a result, well‐known as‐a‐service models such as software‐as‐a‐service and platform‐as‐a‐service are being emphasized in the energy sector. Also, new types of services such as zero‐carbon‐as‐a‐service and resilience‐as‐a‐service have been emerging recently. With the spread of as‐a‐service, the value chain structure of the energy industry is expected to shift towards various types of services and platforms. Servitization, represented by as‐a‐service, is becoming a trend in the energy industry, and policy and regulatory support to foster the data industry and expand opportunities to demonstrate innovative technologies and services is required. The hydroelectric crisis is fomenting studies that seek the decentralization of electric energy generation in Brazil. Due to the climatic dependence on alternative sources, knowing their intermittent behavior is the best way to ensure supply. This article presents an analysis of energy complementarity based on the occurrences of climate variables with precipitation for hydroelectric power, irradiation for photovoltaic, and wind speed for wind power. We aimed to analyze and spatialize the availability of renewable energy sources in western Paraná through historical series (2011 to 2020), statistical analysis (monthly and seasonal), and the use of Geographic Information System (GIS). Daily data records were made available by the Paraná Meteorological Institute (SIMEPAR), referring to eight weather stations throughout the mesoregion. The results identified spatial complementarity for the mesoregion West Paraná. Cascavel city stood out for temporal complementarity, recording the highest values for precipitation in spring and wind speed in winter. In addition, irradiation data excelled in summer for the city of Santa Helena when compared to the other municipalities considered.
