Protective Effect of Resveratrol against Oxidation Stress Induced by 2-Nitropropane in Rat Liver

Abstract: We investigated the effect of resveratrol on oxidation damage and variation of antioxidant defences induced by 2-nitropropane (2-NP) in rat liver. One group of five rats was given resveratrol (50 mg/kg/d body weight) in the diet until the end of the experiment. After 14 days, 2-NP (100 mg/kg) was injected i.p. into two groups of animals (2-NP + Res and 2-NP groups) while control animals were treated with vehicle alone. Animals were killed by decapitation 15 h after 2-NP injection. The levels of 8-oxo-7,8-dihyd… Show more

“…In a model of chemically induced acute hepatic injury, resveratrol at dose of 50 mg/kg/day administered for 14 days long could ameliorate hepatic injury by its antioxidant and scavenging properties, through a reduction of xanthine oxidase activity, a partial restoration of GSH/GSSG ratio in addition to its capacity to inhibit apoptosis. [ 44 ]…”

“…6,32,33 Induction of 2-Nitropropane can cause liver cell damage and acute liver injury, which was characterized by increased levels of SGOT and SGPT. 18,27 When given M. oleifera fruits extract, there was a decrease in liver SGOT and SGPT levels in groups P1 and P2 compared to groups O1 and O2. These findings indicate that M. oleifera extract can be a potential antioxidant candidate in liver damage due to 2-Nitropropane induction.…”

“…The current treatment modality for 2-NP-mediated liver injury is extensively investigated. The protective effect of resveratrol, 32 binaphthyl diselenide, 33 or moringa oleifera 34 as a treatment for 2-NP induced hepatotoxicity was documented. CNPs are well-recognized delivery systems broadly used as polymeric carriers in the nanomedicine field.…”
