“…The majority of the studies have been on free radical scavengers, which have limited ionizing irradiation damage in proteins in aqueous environments [3,12,28]. Recently, however, Grieb et al [9] reported that a radioprotective cocktail solution, which included mannitol, was successful in protecting mechanical properties of human semitendinosus tendon at 50 kGy under regulated conditions.…”

“…It has been established as a major water-soluble intracellular antioxidant (Asmus et al, 1996). Ascorbate (at 193 K) can readily repair all oxidizing free radicals with greater reduction potentials, which includes hydroxyl radicals (Zbikowska et al, 2006). Because the ascorbyl radical has its unpaired electron in a highly delocalized system, it is a relatively unreactive free radical.…”

“…P-OOHs were measured by the guanidine-perchloric acid-ferric-xylenol orange method (G-PCA-FOX) [22,23]. The assay is based on the oxidation of Fe 2+ by peroxides in the presence of the dye xylenol orange that gives a coloured complex with the Fe 3+ generated.…”
