Proviado – Personalized and Configurable Visualizations of Business Processes

Abstract: A monitoring component is a much-needed module in order to provide an integrated view on system-spanning and cross-organizational business processes. Current monitoring tools, however, do not offer adequate process visualization support. In particular, processes are always visualized in the way they were drawn by the process designer. This static approach is by far not sufficient when dealing with more complex scenarios where different user groups usually have different perspectives on processes and related da… Show more

“…In principle, the basic concepts behind this tool can be added as extensions to existing BPM tools as well; e.g., Intalio (Intalio, 2006), Aris Toolset (2007, and ADEPT2 Process Composer . Furthermore, configuration and visualization support for business process models (Bobrik, 2006) (Bobrik, 2007) (Hallerbach, 2008) can be improved utilizing the semantics of the used activity patterns. Finally, we plan to use our tool for conducting a series of experiments in which we compare process modeling with and without activity pattern support.…”

For this purpose, Proviado provides a sophisticated template mechanisms.…”

“…For example, managers rather prefer an abstract process overview, whereas process participants need a detailed view of those process parts they are involved in. Several approaches for creating such process model views, which are based on well-defined abstraction techniques, have been proposed [7,8,9]. However, in many cases providing a customized process view is not sufficient for making the relevant part of a process model understandable for the end user.…”
