“…In CCl 4 induced toxicity, CCl 3˚ is produced as a free radical which binds to lipoprotein leading to peroxidation of lipid of endoplasmic reticulum. The fact that ALT is raised at both 10 and 20 exposure indicates that CCl 4 have induced toxicity in accordance with Alhassan et al, 2009 who reported that rats treated with high dose of CCl 4 developed profound hepatic damage and oxidative stress as evidenced by increase in the serum activities of ALT, AST, ALP, total and direct bilirubin that are indicators of cellular leakage and loss of functional integrity of cell membrane in liver. Daily oral administration of 13mg/kg phenol root extract of C. procera (PRECP) produces statistically significant decrease in serum ALB.…”

“…The result from this research work indicated that CCl 4 induced toxicity (group II) rats have elevated liver function indices; serum activities of AST, ALT, ALP, total and direct bilirubin as compared to positive control (group I). The increased serum level of the enzymes is due to cellular leakage as shown by Alhassan et al, (2009). In CCl 4 induced toxicity, CCl 3˚ is produced as a free radical which binds to lipoprotein leading to peroxidation of lipid of endoplasmic reticulum.…”

“…It shows that 49.2% dry weight of worm consists of crude protein followed by crude fat (26.3%), NFE (19.2%), moisture (7.1%) and low crude fibre (2.1 %). Energy value was estimated to be 509.8Kcal.The protein content was found to be higher than value reported in a similar work by Alhassan et al, (2009).…”

“…They are "C"-shaped, up to 1 inch long, with cream-colored bodies and brown head. They are frequently encountered when tilling garden soil or by sifting through soil underneath animal or grass dungs, therefore easy to find for those who consume worms on a regular basis and as livelihood or for medicinal purposes (Alhassan, A. J. et al, 2009). The aim of this work was to explore the nutrient and economic benefits of grub worms picked from animal dung sites in Jos metropolis, Nigeria, as possible strategy for mitigating food insecurity.…”
