Pseudomonads in Human Saliva

Abstract: SYNOPSIS IN INTERLINGUAPSEUDOMONADES IN SALIVA HUMAN.-Saliva ab 350 subjectos normal esseva cultivate quantitativemente con tres medios selective de Pseudomonas aeruginosa e altere pseudomonades. Show more

“…Previously, although pseudomonads had been isolated from saliva, no trends with age had emerged. 24 In other studies, a range of enterobacteria (e.g., Klebsiella spp., Escherichia coli, Proteus spp.) have been isolated from the oropharynx of the elderly2' but, perhaps significantly, the isolation rates for these organisms increased as the individuals became more debilitated and hospitalised.…”

“…Isolation of strains of P. fluorescens and P. putida from saliva or feces of healthy individuals indicates that these are part of the normal flora of a few individuals. Nonfluorescent pseudomonads were not found in saliva or feces of healthy individuals (15,16) because methods for detection were selective for fluorescent pseudomonads capable of growing on Cetrimide Agar.…”

“…Information about the presence oi P. aeruginosa as an inhabitant or as a pathogen in the oral eavity is contradictory (Table 1). In earlier reports the prevalence rates oi P. aeruginosa in saliva have varied between 1% and 15% (6)(7)(8), and in pus specimens of orofacial infections between 0.3% and 6.5% (2,3,9,10). Tsatsas et al (11) have studied recontaminated root canals and isolated P. aeruginosa in one of 39 cases.…”
