Pulmonary MALT Lymphoma has variable features on CT

Abstract: Pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is the most common primary pulmonary lymphoma. There are limited studies on imaging features of pulmonary MALT lymphoma. We present the computed tomography (CT) manifestations of pulmonary MALT lymphoma and the correlation between CT manifestations and clinical characteristics. Patients (n = 53) with histologically confirmed pulmonary MALT lymphoma who underwent chest CT scanning were retrospectively analyzed. Evaluated findings included distribution … Show more

“…The radiological abnormalities in pulmonary MALToma are diverse and can be misdiagnosed as other pulmonary diseases in many cases due to some nonspecific characteristics. Although several studies have been conducted to describe computed tomography (CT) characteristics of pulmonary MALToma, diagnosis of this disease entity remains a formidable challenge 11–16 . Here, we are dedicated to identifying radiologic appearances of patients with pulmonary MALToma based on CT observations and pathologic features, as well as investigating their prognosis.…”

“…Similar to lobar pneumonia, consolidation pattern can be easily misdiagnosed as pneumonia. 6,7 Pulmonary MALT lymphoma is usually treated with chemotherapy, immunotherapy or surgery, while lobar pneumonia is usually treated with antibiotics. 8 Based on the fact, it is important to distinguish MALT lymphoma from lobar pneumonia accurately in order to institute appropriate treatment to improve their prognosis.…”

“…In line with previous reports, CT scan showed solitary pulmonary nodules in all lung lobes. 18 , 25 , 26 , 27 Based on the CT scan, a biopsy of lung tissue, clonality, and immunohistochemistry analysis were performed as recommended (NCI SEER database). 1 , 10 The clonality analysis detected immunoglobulin gene rearrangements in IGHA, IGHB, and IGHC, which have previously been described to be affected in BALT lymphomas.…”
