Modern synthesized aperture radars (SAR), e.g. space SARs for remote sensing of the Earth, use signals with linear frequency modulation and signals with phase-code shift keying (PCSK) coded by M-sequence (MS) as probing signals. Utilization of PCSK-signals permits an essential improvement of the radar image quality at the stage of its compression on azimuthal coordinate. In this paper, probing signals with zero autocorrelation zone (ZACZ) are synthesized, which signals represent a sequence of two PCSK-pulses with additional linear frequency modulation of sub-pulses in the pulses. A comparative analysis of the correlation characteristics of the synthesized signal and the PCSK-signal coded by MS has been performed. It is shown that in ZACZ, at a mismatch in the Doppler frequency, the level of all side lobes (SL) of the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the synthesized signal is less than the ACF SL level of the PCSK-signal coded by MS. The total ACF of the ensemble of 4 signals has zero SL along the whole time axis τ, and at a mismatch in frequency in ZACZ, it has a lower SL level than the total ACF SLs of the ensemble of 4 PCSK-signals coded by MS.

Modern ground penetrating radars (GPR), designed to determine the thickness of ice or search for the occurrence of aquifers in arid regions of the Earth, are installed either on helicopters or on the earth's surface. The use of a helicopter is economically expensive, and the installation of GPRs on the earth's surface is of a local nature. Modern GPRs mainly use video pulse probing signals and probing signals with linear frequency modulation. These signals have correlation noise, which makes it difficult to obtain a high-quality radar image. In this work, we propose to use a signal with a zero autocorrelation zone (ZACZ) as a probing signal for GPR installed on an unmanned aerial vehicle. In work, a polyphase probing signal with a ZACZ is synthesized and a comparative analysis of the correlation characteristics of the synthesized signal with the optimal phase-code shift keyed signal is carried out.

For the synthesised aperture radar, the radar signal with a zero autocorrelation zone (ZACZ) is synthesised, which represents a sequence from two phase-code shift keying (PCSK) pulses coded by adjacent pairs of the D-code with additional linear frequency shift-keying (LFSK) of the train pulse discrete value. A comparative analysis is performed of correlation characteristics of the synthesised signal with the signal without discrete modulation and the truncated M-sequence. Total correlation characteristics of the ensemble from four signals are also analysed. It is shown that in ZACZ, the level of all side lobes of the autocorrelation function (ACF) of the synthesised signal is less than the level of the ACF side lobes of the M-sequence. The total ACF of the ensemble of four signals both with modulation and without the discrete modulation has zero side lobes along with the whole time axis τ, and at mismatch in frequency in ZACZ, it has the side lobe level <−40 dB.
