Pulsed Sagnac polarization-entangled photon source with a PPKTP crystal at telecom wavelength

Abstract: We demonstrate pulsed polarization-entangled photons generated from a periodically poled KTiOPO(4) (PPKTP) crystal in a Sagnac interferometer configuration at telecom wavelength. Since the group-velocity-matching (GVM) condition is satisfied, the intrinsic spectral purity of the photons is much higher than in the previous scheme at around 800 nm wavelength. The combination of a Sagnac interferometer and the GVM-PPKTP crystal makes our entangled source compact, stable, highly entangled, spectrally pure and ultr… Show more

“…When post-selected on its two-photon component, this state gives the desired polarization entangled photon pair [31]. The underlying essence behind the generation of entanglement here is the lack of information as to which of the two pumps resulted in the generation of the downconverted photon pairs.…”

“…Another example is the EPR interference test (also called correlation measurement) for polarization entangled photon pairs. We consider the Sagnac loop entanglement source, which was proposed in [29] and is now widely used for photonic QIP experiments [18,[30][31][32][33]. Here we compare our model with the EPR interference experiment performed by a Sagnac loop entanglement source in [18].…”

“…Thanks to the GVM condition, the spectral purity is much higher at telecom wavelength than that at visible wavelengths39. The multi-pair components in our PPKTP source as a function of pump power were investigated in our previous work31.…”
