To date there have been mixed findings about the impact of various manufacturing capabilities on organizational performance. This study investigates entrepreneurial orientation (EO) from the perspective of the Contingency Theory as a potential explanatory variable. The findings are that EO moderates the relationship between capabilities in flexibility and cost and organizational performance. Further, without a sufficient level of EO, there are no benefits to organizational performance and as such EO is positioned as a strategic resource to cultivate and nurture. This study provides insight into the connection between operational capabilities and firm level strategy.Specifically, it appears that EO may be the mechanism whereby manufacturing capabilities are linked to market needs.

To inflate monetary earnings, many organisations execute initiatives such as comprehensive reach of supply chains, amplified outsourcing, shorter product life cycles, reduced buffers and centralisation. These initiatives are effective in stable surroundings, but they could make supply chain vulnerable to various types of disruptions. The main thrust of this research is, to propose a conceptual model for endowing deeper knowledge of how uncertainty from suppliers, customers and existing supply chain structure amplifies vulnerability and consequently increases supply chain risk exposure. In accordance with fitness landscape theory, this paper accepts a complex systems perspective to view supply chain organisations and understand their capabilities. Procurement reforms are seen as essential for achieving a long term improvement in financial management within Africa. To gain insight into this situation an analysis of success stories and cases where challenges and difficulties have arisen were investigated. This material was content analysed using Mayring (2008) four-step process model. The findings demonstrate some initial improvement within African public sector financial management; however the complete and successful implementation of these reforms is fraught with problems. These issues that limit improved financial management through procurement reform included; inadequate education and training, legislative constraints, especially those associated with procurement technology, and a lack of political support for the reform process. In political terms the study identified that the current political position coupled with socio-cultural sensitivities of participating countries, has created a neglect of ethical and environmental considerations which in turn has slowed the pace and acceptance of reforms.
