QoS provisioning with adaptive backoff algorithm for IEEE 802.11ac under multipacket reception

Abstract: Abstract-Recent advances in physical layer communication techniques, enable receivers to decode multiple simultaneous transmissions. This technique is known as the multipacket reception (MPR). In this paper, we propose an enhancement to the IEEE 802.11ac EDCA protocol for channels supporting MPR for QoS provisioning. We show that in the case of MPR, in addition to CWmin, CWmax and AIF SN , we can use two more parameters namely (i)threshold and (ii)counter decrement value, that can offer service differentiation… Show more

“…When the demand is received by the AP, it makes admission control to determine if the request accepted or not. If the request accepted, it determines the duration for the admitted data to use the channel [25]. As shown in Figure 2(b), video, voice, back-ground and best-effort are scheduled service queues in four first in first out (FIFOi ) that defined by EDCA with associated priority (knows AC S ) [26].…”

“…Such as a dynamic Contention Window (CW) tuning scheme by considering the collision probability [18,23], or an adaptive Arbitration Inter-Frame Space Number (AIFSN) scheme [24]. In Reference [25] the authors introduce two additional MAC-layer parameters-threshold and counter decrement value, and propose an QoS provisioning with adaptive back off algorithm in the case of multi-packet reception. Some proposed improvement methods were developed with consideration of wireless network type or its topology.…”

“…Chan et al [11] have analysed the performance of carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) under MPR and has evaluated through simulation the early specification of IEEE 802.11ac standard for MPR enabled MU-MIMO capable PHY layer. Further enhancements to IEEE 802.11ac protocols to support QoS through adaptive backoff mechanism leveraging the MPR nature of channel have been proposed [12].…”
