QTL Analysis for Resistance to Phytophthora capsici in Pepper Using a High Density SSR-based Map

Abstract: A segregating doubled haploid (DH) population (n = 96) was developed by anther culture of an F 1 plant crossed between susceptible ('Manganji') and resistant ('Criollo de Morelos 334') lines of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) to conduct a genetic analysis of resistance to Phytophthora rot caused by Phytophthora capsici. In order to perform a quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis, we constructed a high density simple sequence repeat (SSR)-based map with a total length of 878 cM. Sixteen linkage groups (LGs) and 1… Show more

“…Previously published SSR markers were used for the present mapping (Huang et al, 2001;Lee et al, 2004;Minamiyama et al, 2006aMinamiyama et al, , 2007Nagy et al, 2007;Yi et al, 2006). In addition, AFLP and some of the newly developed SSR markers were used.…”

“…Hence, the inheritance of these traits has been extensively studied and the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that contribute to disease resistance and fruit traits have been reported (Ben Chaim et al, 2001a, 2001bLefebvre et al, 2003;Minamiyama et al, 2005Minamiyama et al, , 2007Popovsky and Paran, 2000;Thabuis et al, 2003;Voorrips et al, 2004). In addition to the above-mentioned traits, axillary shooting, flowering date, primary axis length, and number of leaves are also important for pepper production.…”

“…Despite these genetic material did not amplify the SCAR marker OpD04.717, can be used to search for other markers associated with genes that confer resistance to the Oomycete like: CaRGA2, CABPR1, CABGLU, CAPO1, CASC1 (Silvar et al, 2008;Zhang et al, 2013), or QTLs Phyto.4.1, Phyto.5.1, Phyto.6.1, Phyto.11.1 and Phyto12.1, located on chromosomes 4, 5, 11 and 12 respectively (Thabuis et al 2003). Because the resistance to this pathogen is polygenic (Pochard and Daubèze, 1980;Ogundiwin et al, 2005;Minamiyama et al, 2007), it is difficult to explain the resistance to the disease just through marker OpD04.717.…”
