Quad‐mode radial uniform circular array antenna for OAM multiplexing

Abstract: This study presents a novel radial uniform circular array (UCA) antenna for quad‐mode orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing in the 5.2 GHz band. The antenna can simultaneously generate four OAM modes (±1, ±2) using two radial UCAs printed concentrically on a single substrate. Each UCA is connected to an individual dual‐mode feeding network, and generates a pair of complementary OAM modes. The feeding network for each UCA consists of one quadrature hybrid coupler and two circular feedlines, and they can b… Show more

“…The research studies on OAM wave mentioned above are focussed on its generation [9][10][11][12][13][14] and communication application [15][16][17]. The electromagnetic scattering by target is a subject that has long been of interest in the design and operation of radar systems, which makes the research on the scattering of OAM wave has great significance for OAM radar communication.…”

“…2,3 Besides communication, OAM-VW also shows great potential in radar application. 4,5 At present, the generations of OAM-VW at microwave bands include circular array antenna [6][7][8][9] circular traveling wave antenna 10,11 and metasurface antenna [12][13][14][15] et al It is no longer a difficulty to generate the OAM-VW. Nevertheless, the performance of the OAM-VW antenna still needs to be improved, including the radiation and scattering properties.…”

“…Based on the concentric UCAs, OAM beams with different modes can be transmitted simultaneously. In addition, compared with a single UCA, OAM beams with a certain mode transmitted by the concentric UCA can be more focused by suitably controlling the space between UCAs [5]. About other novel methods to generate RF-OAM beams, reflective metasurfaces and the eight-arm Archimedean spiral antenna (ASA) provide a new approach to generate OAM beams with frequency tunable and multi-mode [6], [7].…”
