Quality of Life After Surgery or Surveillance for Asymptomatic Primary Hyperparathyroidism

Abstract: A number of studies have investigated the effects of surgery on symptoms and quality of life in patients with hyperparathyroidism. However, the results are inconsistent. We conducted this meta-analysis to quantitatively assess changes in quality of life among patients with asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism.Different databases were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing surgery with surveillance. “…All analyses were performed using STATA 12.0 (Stata Corp., College Station, TX, USA). Standardized mean difference (SMD) between the lidocaine group and the control group and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for continuous outcomes with a random‐effects model . For dichotomous outcomes, we calculated risk ratio (RR) and 95% CIs, again using a random‐effects model.…”

“…Each of the studies was independently assessed by two of the authors (SPC and CLL) using a predesigned data extraction table. The name of the first author and the year of publication of the article were used for identification [12]. If data were not available from the text or tables, they were measured from the published figures.…”

“…После успешной операции нормализуются концентрации кальция и паратгормона крови, показатели минеральной плотности костной ткани [1,2], а также наблюдается улучшение в области неврологической и психосоматической симптоматики, в частности облегчение таких симптомов, как утомляемость, нарушения сна, тревога, депрессия и когнитивные нарушения. Отмечается значительное улучшение параметров "общее самочувствие" и "качество жизни" по данным анкет и опросников [3].…”
