Abstract:A method was developed to quantify diaminomaleonitrile (DAMN) in complex aqueous matrices using high performance liquid chromatography with UV and electrospray ionization mass spectrometric (ESI-MS) detection. The method is rapid (analytical times <10 min), able to quantify DAMN against complex backgrounds, and achieved with part per billion detection limits. Given the central role of DAMN in generating heterocycles of known biological significance, this study provides a rapid and sensitive method for quantify… Show more
“…4 For the postulated tetrameric compound, the theoretical monoisotopic molecular mass was calculated to be between 420.31 and 426.36 Da, depending on its oxidation state. Since the 1 H NMR indicated that the oligomer was in its fully oxidized state, we expected mass spectral data to show values corresponding to 420 Da or very slightly different if the compound were to undergo protonation or deprotonation during the electrospray process, which has been reported for conjugated amines [13]. In TOF experiments, we found that the largest species had m/z values of 427 Da (negative-ion mode) and 429 Da (positive-ion mode).…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
