Quantitative analysis of multicomponents by a single marker and quality evaluation of Venenum Bufonis from different geographical origins

Abstract: Bufadienolides are the main bioactive components of Venenum Bufonis (VB) and have been widely used to treat different types of human cancers for decades. The bufadienolide content in VB varies significantly in materials from different geographical origins. In this work, a new strategy for the quality assessment of VB was developed through quantitative analysis of multi‐components by single marker (QAMS). Cinobufagin was selected as the internal reference substance; seven bufadienolides were separated and simul… Show more

“…Among them, gamabufotalin (GB), telocinobufagin (TBG), bufotalin (BFL), cinobufotalin (CFL), bufalin (BL), cinobufagin (CBG) and resibufogenin (RBG) (Fig. 1) are the dominant components, representing more than 80% of the total amount of bufagenins 26 . These compounds are considered major contributors to the role of toxins in defence 27 .…”

“…A component of a given herbal medicine that is stable, inexpensive, easily available, pharmacologically active and easy to separate under conventional chromatographic conditions is an ideal candidate for a marker compound [29]. In this study, rutin, the most abundant and pharmacologically active component of M. stenopetala, was selected as single marker for the quantification of GLSs and phenolics in moringa leaves.…”

“…Recently, QAMS has been extensively applied for the quality analysis of TCM, and is considered to be a feasible alternative to ESM [15][16][17]. It is gradually included in the official pharmacopoeia of an increasing number of countries such as China, India, USA, and the countries in Europe [18].…”
