Quantitative Assessment of Five Behavioural Laterality Measures: Distributions of Scores and Intercorrelations Among Right-handers

Abstract: Five behavioural laterality measures (degree of right-handedness, ear dominance, ocular dominance, line bisection performance, and lateral preference as assessed by preferred direction of conjugate lateral eye movem ents) were analysed in 1171 right-handers by merging data from 15 different samples. All laterality aspects were assessed quantitatively by using well controlled performance measures instead of questionnaires. The distributions and intercorrelations of the measures as well as their test±retest reli… Show more

“…Consistent with this, an overwhelming preponderance of studies fails to show a clear relationship between handedness and "eyedness" (e.g., Annett, 1999;M. M. “…Only low gelotophobic individuals (scores ≤ 1.5) were invited to participate. All participants were right-handed as assessed by a standardized handedness test (performance test; Papousek and Schulter, 1999;Steingrüber and Lienert, 1971), and gave written informed consent prior to the EEG recording session.…”

“…Handedness was assessed by a standardized handedness test (Hand Dominance Test; Papousek and Schulter, 1999;Steingrüber and Lienert, 1971). Participants were requested to refrain from alcohol for 12 h and from coffee and other stimulating beverages for 4 h prior to their lab appointment, and to come to the session well rested.…”
