Quantitative deviating effects of maple syrup extract supplementation on the hepatic gene expression of mice fed a high‐fat diet

Abstract: Our study suggested that the effects of MSXH ingestion showed (i) dose-dependent pattern involved in energy metabolisms and (ii) reversely pattern involved in stress responses.

“…15, 16 Maple syrup contains a wide variety of phenolic constituents 1719 and in our group’s ongoing research on this natural product, 16, 1821 we have developed a phenolic-enriched maple syrup extract (MSX) for nutraceutical applications which is well-tolerated and non-toxic to rats (at doses of up to 1000 mg/kg/day). 20 Phenolic-enriched extracts of maple syrup have been reported to show antioxidant 18 , anti-diabetic, 2022 anticancer, 23 anti-inflammatory 24, 25 , and neuroprotective 26, 27 properties in vitro. More recently, our group has also reported on the neuroprotective effects of MSX on murine microglia BV-2 cells, human neuronal SH-SY5Y cells, and against neurotoxicity in Caenorhabditis elegans in vivo.…”

“…The expression of several inflammatory proteins, including Alzheimer’s disease risk-associated proteins, was reduced by maple syrup extract. The impact that maple syrup extract had on hepatic gene expression in mice on a high-fat diet has been reported by Kamei et al [ 68 ] and Kamei et al [ 72 ]. According to changes in the expression of the genes associated with lipid metabolism and immune response, maple syrup extract can help to attenuate hepatic inflammation in mice.…”

“…Polyphenols are also preponderant components in maple syrup composition [ 34 , 35 ]. The role of polyphenols in the nutritional properties of maple syrup has therefore been suggested and intensively investigated.…”
