Abstract:SUMMARY
Sub-plate mantle flow traction (MFT) has been considered as a major driving force for plate motion; however, the force acting on the overlying plate is difficult to constrain. One of the reasons lies in the variable rheological flow laws of mantle rocks, for example, linear versus power-law rheology, applied in previous studies. Here, systematic numerical models are conducted to evaluate MFT under variable rheological, geometrical and kinematic conditions. The results indicate that MFT w… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
