“…Our previous work has indicated that PMAcO-modified calcium carbonate-based columns have the same level of hydrogen bonding capacity as commonly used silica gel-based columns, which is presumably due to the interaction with calcium carbonate-derived oxygen and PMAcO-derived carbonyl groups on the CaCO 3 surface. 25 Therefore, the selectivity of the Eggshell-PMAcO column for steroids might be influenced by the hydrogen bonding ability, resulting in the recognition and separation of steroids with similar log P values. Even on C18 columns where residual silanol may be present, the order of elution of steroids differs from their order of hydrophobicity.…”

“…20−23 We previously developed an alkali-resistant reversed-phase column packing material based on monodisperse mesoporous calcium carbonate microspheres modified with poly(maleic acid-alt-1octadecene) (CaCO 3 -PMAcO). 24,25 Since calcium carbonate is a basic oxide, the CaCO 3 -PMAcO column showed better stability than octadecyl-modified silica (ODS) columns when used with an alkaline mobile phase. In addition, the CaCO 3 -PMAcO column achieved a separation performance comparable to that of ODS columns and showed potential for the practical analysis of basic drugs under alkaline condition.…”
