Quantitative Exploration of Electron Transfer in a Single Noncovalent Supramolecular Assembly

Abstract: Electron transfer through a noncovalent interaction bears essential relevance to the functions of bottom-up supramolecular assembly. However, rather little knowledge regarding such phenomena at the single-molecule level is currently available. Herein we report the direct quantification of electron-transfer processes for a single noncovalently linked porphyrin-fullerene dyad. Facilitated electron transfer via a charge-transfer interaction in-between was successfully measured by utilizing a fullerene molecular t… Show more

“…S1 shows the XPS spectra of bared FTO and 4-ATP modified FTO substrates, the latter has stronger peaks at ~285 and ~400 eV for C = C and –NH 2 groups2122, implying that the 4-ATP is bonded on the FTO. On the other hand, according to the references2324, –SH can be well assembled on the FTO surface. So it is believed that 4-ATP as a bridging agent improves the combination of FTO layer via –SH end and guide the growth of PANI chains via −NH 2 end to form 4-ATP/PANI film25.…”

“…[1] Apart from being efficiently synthesized in au ser-friendly way,p romising molecular assemblies for functional hybrid electronic devices should be structurally rigid and must facilitate electron transfer between individual components. [6] Nevertheless,a ni deal assembly scheme that satisfies all the aforementioned characteristics remains challenging.
