Quantitative Indicators of Technical-Tactical Performance: An Example With Freestyle and Female Top 10 Wrestlers from the 2011 World Senior Championships

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to describe the technical-tactical performance of the top ten wrestlers in the 2011 World Senior Championship in freestyle and female wrestling. In order to determine some relationships between objective characteristics of the technical and tactical performance, a general model was used to characterize components of the technical and tactical combinations (TTC) actually made in a sample composed by 70 wrestlers per style, 140 in total. Variables with greater informational content … Show more

“…This situation can be observed clearly when preceding an effective standing techniques, the attacking movement reveals its intentionality and causation as preparatory actions, but not when the technique fails to be effective. About "Pummeling", as already noted different authors, current rules encourages wrestlers to avoid to set-up in full contact (11,16,18), so this type of grips are very brief and dynamic, being common the interaction algorithm "Motion -Hand Fighting -Pummeling -Motion" where "Pummeling" appears mostly. This makes it difficult to determine the duration, except when it is followed by the execution of an action attack technique, for example in an algorithm "Pummeling -Standing Technique -Danger Position".…”

“…Technical and tactical variables were obtained from previous studies (8,9,10,11) and were utilized to formulate the list of TMA indicators used in the analysis. This group of variables was composed and consists of eleven categories:1) "Motion", 2) "Hand Fighting", 3) "Pummeling", 4) "Shot", 5) "Standing Technical Movement", 6 )"Push-out", 7) "Par-terre Set-up", 8) "Par-Terre Technical Movement", 9) "Danger Position", 10) "Interruption", and 11) "Pause between rounds".…”
