Quantitative Model of Attacks on Distribution Automation Systems Based on CVSS and Attack Trees

Abstract: This study focuses on the problem of attack quantification in distribution automation systems (DASs) and proposes a quantitative model of attacks based on the common vulnerability scoring system (CVSS) and attack trees (ATs) to conduct a quantitative and systematic evaluation of attacks on a DAS. In the DAS security architecture, AT nodes are traversed and used to represent the attack path. The CVSS is used to quantify the attack sequence, which is the leaf node in an AT. This paper proposes a method to calcul… Show more

“…There are so many security measures as mentioned above, but it is not clear which metric are the most significant, and which metric is the best to improve security performance. Therefore, based on a set of dynamic security measures proposed by Dilli P. Sharma, this paper evaluates the cyber networks in a timely, dynamic and adaptive manner 22 , trying to find out the importance ranking of security metrics affecting the network security of SME enterprises.…”

“…In [18], E. Li et al introduce a combined method for identifying and evaluating the potential threats against a Distribution Automation System (DAS). In particular, the proposed method relies on attack trees and the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) [19] in order to specify the possible threats and then to assess them quantitatively.…”
