Quantitative receptor radioautography in the study of receptor-receptor interactions in the nucleus tractus solitarii

Abstract: The nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) in the dorsomedial medulla comprises a wide range of neuropeptides and biogenic amines. Several of them are related to mechanisms of central blood pressure control. Angiotensin II (Ang II), neuropeptide Y (NPY) and noradrenaline (NA) are found in the NTS cells, as well as their receptors. Based on this observation we have evaluated the modulatory effect of these peptide receptors on α 2 -adrenoceptors in the NTS. Using quantitative receptor radioautography, we observed that … Show more

“…Neuronal colocalization suggests the possible interaction of Ang II with Substance P and further involvement of Ang II in trigeminal neuralgia and nociception [12,42,43,46]. Angiotensin receptor type 1 have been reported in the nucleus tractus solitarri (NTS) of rat brain [19,47], moreover Substance P receptors are also localized in NTS of rat brain [32]. …”

“…A neuromodulação envolvendo a noradrenalina e o NPY é bem caracterizada nas áreas envolvidas no controle central do sistema cardiovascular (YANG et al, 1994b;FIOR-CHADI & FUXE, 1998). A interação entre os receptores α2-adrenérgicos, da noradrenalina, e o Y1 e Y2 de NPY foi descrito há bastante tempo.…”
