Abstract:Summary
Six characteristics of the streptomycin-fast variants found in an antibiotic-sensitive strain of K. pneumoniae showed striking similarity to definitive properties of gene-mutations in higher organisms. Though circumstantial in nature, such evidence strongly favors the theory proposing the existance of mutable hereditary units in bacteria which quantitatively affect the property of streptomycin-susceptibility. Quantitatively, this stock strain was composed of a small number of organisms e… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
