Quantum Dots for Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis

Abstract: Quantum dots (QDs) are luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals that have extraordinary luminescence emission properties. Their semiconductor properties are different from bulk material because of the quantum confinement effects. These properties allow the use of QDs as a luminescent probe for pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis. Herein, we want to mention the synthesis, surface modification, characterization, and application of QDs. The aim of this chapter is to compile and discuss the advantages and disadva… Show more

“…The electroluminescence and optical properties of the QD core can be manipulated by altering the sizes of the QD core and shell. Furthermore, core/shell QDs having a shell band gap larger than the core band gap give rise to the electroluminescence properties related to exciton decay by radiative processes [ 56 , 57 ].…”

“…Thus, a light source with a wavelength shorter than the emission wavelength can lead to multiple excitations (and emissions) because of its broad absorption band. These properties that QDs exhibit, broad excitation spectra and narrow emission spectra [ 57 ], make them suitable for multiplexed imaging [ 58 , 59 ]. Figure 2 names some optical properties of QDs.…”

“…Effect of cationic proteins on gold nanoparticles-Aptamer Essays is another method for basis of construction of Biosensor. Biosensors based on aggregation of gold nanoparticles employing small molecules such as CBD and CBN is possible (Kang et al, 2015;Kara and Ertaş, 2017;Pawar et al, 2018;Rizvi et al, 2010;Rosenthal et al, 2011).…”

“…They are fluorescent 0-D (Zero Dimension) nanoparticles used in drug delivery and allow in vivo monitoring. It has disadvantages such as the fact that they are hydrophobic and tend to aggregate, so it has to be coated with a layer of ligands so that they become soluble [ 176 ].…”
