Quantum phase transitions with dynamical flavors

Abstract: We study the properties of a D6-brane probe in the ABJM background with smeared massless dynamical quarks in the Veneziano limit. Working at zero temperature and non-vanishing charge density, we show that the system undergoes a quantum phase transition in which the topology of the brane embedding changes from a black hole to a Minkowski embedding. In the unflavored background the phase transition is of second order and takes place when the charge density vanishes. We determine the corresponding critical expone… Show more

“…One possible intermediate step could be considering the geometry dual to the non-commutative ABJM model, which was found in [37] by applying a TsT duality transformation. By adding internal flux to the probe branes we should be able to find Hall states similar to those found here [38].…”

“…The more general case of massive embeddings can be readily obtained by considering a general function χ(r). It would be interesting to see how the quantum phase transition studied in [46][47][48] between Minkowski and black hole embeddings is modified by the backreaction as has been seen in other (2 + 1)-dimensional systems [49].…”

“…In these examples there exist an AdS 2 factor in the near horizon region of the supersymmetric solution, corresponding to an IR fixed point to which the conformal UV theory flows, as a result of the topological twist induced at the AdS 4 boundary by the presence of magnetic fields. Another related line of investigations in the literature involve a holographic study of the ABJM type models deformed by dynamical flavors [18,19]. The latter paper [19] also reports similar quantum critical behaviour in the ABJM model deformed by dynamical flavor degrees of freedom.…”

The latter paper [19] also reports similar quantum critical behaviour in the ABJM model deformed by dynamical flavor degrees of freedom. Finally, dilatonic, charged and dyonic black-branes have been investigated in the holographic context in a series of papers by Goldstein et al [20,21] and [22].…”
