In Network Virtualization Environments, the capability of operators to allocate resources in the Substrate Network (SN) to support Virtual Networks (VNs) in an optimal manner is known as Virtual Network Embedding (VNE). In the same context, online VN migration is the process meant to reallocate components of a VN, or even an entire VN among elements of the SN in real time and seamlessly to end‐users. Online VNE without VN migration may lead to either over‐ or under‐utilization of the SN resources. However, VN migration is challenging due to its computational cost and the service disruption inherent to VN components reallocation. Online VN migration can reduce migration costs insofar it is triggered proactively, not reactively, at critical times, avoiding the negative effects of both under‐ and over‐triggering. This paper presents a novel online cost‐efficient mechanism that self‐adaptively learns the exact moments when triggering VN migration is likely to be profitable in the long term. We propose a novel self‐adaptive mechanism based on Reinforcement Learning that determines the right trigger online VN migration times, leading to the minimization of migration costs while simultaneously considering the online VNE acceptance ratio.

When multiple applications at two sites connected by a best-effort service network through gateway (GW) equipment communicate simultaneously, the receive rate of a high-priority application communication flow can be smaller than its necessary bandwidth (BW). In this paper, we refer to this problem as the deficit in bandwidth of a high-priority flow (DBHPF) problem. In order to handle this problem, we consider controlling the BW assigned to each flow based on the available bandwidth (ABW) estimated by the GW. The estimated ABW can be larger than the actual ABW due to the error in the estimation. Thus, the receive rate of a high-priority application can be smaller than its necessary BW, even if the actual ABW is larger than the necessary BW. In this paper, we propose a priority-based BW control method that estimates the receive rate of each flow using estimated ABW and related information, and mitigates the effect of the DBHPF problem by controlling the transmission BW of each flow in order to compensate for the difference between the estimated receive rate and the necessary BW according to the priorities of flows. We call the proposed method estimated-receive-rate-based bandwidth control (eR2BC). We also propose a method for ABW estimation with less overhead than existing methods. We conducted experiments using the proposed methods in a virtual network constructed with virtual machines and confirmed that the proposed methods can mitigate the effect of the DBHPF problem better than existing methods.

Providing robust content delivery along with efficient wireless resource usage is important for next generation wireless networks. To achieve this, we propose a proactive content caching scheme utilizing transportation systems, especially trains. In our system, we place content servers with CCN capability to every train and station. Segments of video contents are pre-cached by the station servers before trains arrive at stations. Trains receive the contents via high-speed wireless transport while they stop at the stations. We develop a prototype system based on IP and CCN Hybrid protocols. We evaluate its performance by field experiment and compare with traditional CDN scenarios using cellular networks. Evaluations conclude that our system can achieve high-speed and highreliable video delivery without freezing.
