Race metatheory: Toward a dissolution of a calamitous concept.

Abstract

Race is not a biological reality, but rather a peculiar social construct used to divide people. Race is problematic because the concept is unclearly understood and defined from a psychological perspective. Terms used for race are fraught with controversy because there is no clear definition or meaning. There is no credible information, documentation, or evidence that supports humans being inherently different based upon race. The manner in which race is discussed and rationalized within various fields of education and research is confusing, and unwittingly contributes to the incalculable problems race as a concept presents. Race metatheory (RMT) provides a theoretical and practical framework to address complex issues associated with the concept of race. The use of race in any method of research within science and academia is stigmatizing and should not be used. Researchers are encouraged to explore the intersectionality of other pertinent variables that may exist to explain the phenomena studied, and work toward solutions without the stigmatizing generalizations associated with race.
