Radiation doses from low-dose CT scans in SPECT/CT and PET/CT examinations: A survey in Germany

Abstract: Aim Recently, dose reference levels (DRLs) have been defined in Germany for auxiliary low-dose CT scans in hybrid SPECT/CT and PET/CT examinations, based on data from 2016/17. Here, another survey from 2020 was evaluated and compared with the new DRLs as well as with similar surveys from foreign countries. Methods The survey, which had already been conducted in the Nordic countries, queried for various examinations including the following values: patient weight and height, volume CT dose index (… Show more

“…Furthermore, the literature review highlighted that variation in NDRL value for the administered activities related to the stress and rest one-day protocol range from 407 MBq and 740 MBq to 555 MBq and 1184 MBq for 99m Tc-Tetrofosmin /Sestamibi, respectively [ 8 , 11 , 12 ]. Regarding CT components, a few articles reflect the change of variation in NDRL related to the CT dose, for instance, the CTDI vol value ranges from 2.2 mGy to 36 mGy and the DLP value ranges from 36 mGy.cm to 380 mGy.cm [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ].…”

“…There are several NDRLs in the literature for a wide range of SPECT/CT scans over the globe [12][13][14]. A search of the literature demonstrates a variation in reporting NDRL for SPECT/CT exam, for example, stress/rest myocardial perfusion scan between the United States (425 MBq/1221 MBq) and France (300 MBq/800 MBq) [9,11].…”
